There is a difference between editing and proofreading.
Editing is the multistage process of refining copy to ensure that it is clear, coherent, consistent, and correct.
Proofreading is the act of refining copy that has already been edited; proofreading is the final stage.
Here is a brief guideline for the types of services that proofmojo provides.
1. Structural Editing – assistance with the overall structure, plot, character development, introduction and conclusion, scene or content arrangement.
2. Line Editing – assistance with voice, style, characterization, dialogue, overused language, hooks, and prompts.
3. Copy Editing – assistance with changing/fixing grammar, punctuation, spelling, fact-checking, table of contents, footnotes, bibliography, consistency, timeline accuracy, crutch or echo words, chapter and pagination accuracy.
4. Proofreading – helping with the final pass! Typos, doubled words, grammar, subject/verb agreement, punctuation, spelling, and formatting.
In my experience, most people need copy editing or proofreading assistance.

Rates vary according to the level of service, the amount of work, the complexity of the task, and the timeline for the project. Copy editing rates also vary depending on the subject matter (fiction, nonfiction, business, science, etc.).
There are rates per hour, per page, and per word.
If you can't see a rate for the type of project you have, please contact me for a quote.
Send me an email telling me what you need help with.
We will determine the level of assistance you require, the rates, and the time frame (rush jobs cost a bit more).
Once we agree on the task parameters, you send me your copy and I get to work.
I can take copy in your preferred format (Word, PDF, Google Docs, PowerPoint, hard copy – whatever you have!) and mark it up as requested.
Payment can be made through PayPal or Interac e-transfer. If you prefer another payment method, just let me know.
Large projects will require a deposit in advance.
Proofmojo can guarantee between 4 and 15 pages per day, depending on the complexity of the copy.
If needed, proofmojo can accelerate your project deadline, but additional fees may be required to accommodate rush jobs.
Proofmojo uses the Chicago Manual of Style, MLA guidelines, APA guidelines, British, American, and Canadian dictionaries, industry-specific guidelines, and most importantly, your style guides.
Proofmojo will use the standards that you prefer and help you to comply with style!
