Hi, I am Jo-Ann McQuillan - the "jo" in proofmojo
I have been obsessed with language since I could read; in particular, I have always delighted in finding errors in books, newspapers, and any written words. Turns out I have a knack for it!
I have an English Specialist degree from the University of Toronto, where I focused on the history of the English language and finding discrepancies in early printed books. My later studies lead me to a Master of Information Studies; I spent 20+ years working as a librarian, obsessing over the creation, classification, and dissemination of information.
While in school, I made extra money helping foreign students with their essays. My peers from around the world had amazing ideas that often got lost in their newly adopted English writing. With confidentiality and compassion, I helped to tweak their essays so professors would see nothing but their brilliant ideas.
In my professional career, I have been the go-to girl for quick and thorough editing and proofreading of all sorts of written words. I have been editor of six newsletters, all reaching different engaged audiences. I have proofread hundreds of case studies spanning every imaginable industry. I have also been involved in the publication of numerous business books – editing and proofreading – without bruising any authors’ egos.
I love proofreading so much that I even do it for fun; I volunteer my services to Distributed Proofreaders, assisting in the conversion of out-of-print books into digital formats.
